Welcome to LQ's
WomenInSCM.com – a New Way for Women to Mitigate the “Glass Ceiling”
An
Introduction
Why don’t more women have
C-level roles in the workplace? Traditionally, executives have answered the
question by referring to the catchall the “glass ceiling” to characterize
the failure of many organizations to include women in the most senior
leadership positions.
Does this traditional term
mislead executives and lens their outlook so that they fail to see the
complexities of the problem? A growing body of research suggests so. And,
more managers are beginning to see many possible pieces to this leadership
problem.
Instead of the traditional
perspective of one primary hurdle to mitigate during the last stages of an
illustrious career, studies point to the value of taking a more
comprehensive look at many career challenges during a professional’s entire
career. (In today’s workplace, traditional views on family duties often
prevail, for example.)
LQ’s launch of
WomenInSCM.com is predicated on the view that if we look at a wide array of
solutions and apply them thoughtfully, a better chance exists for more women
to achieve their fair share of leadership positions in the workplace.
Providing more resources
for women in supply chain management and transportation means affording more
educational opportunities, developing mentoring programs and creating
information resources. All of these elements are important ingredients on
the pathway to success.
LQ founded WomenInSCM.com
in 2007 to provide an information resource for women in this exciting field
in the United States and Canada, and to build on LQ’s tradition of providing
“Ideas for Leadership in Logistics and Transportation,” a mission statement
featured on the cover of each issue of LQ Magazine.
With the inauguration of
WomenInSCM.com LQ offers an editorial environment and a meeting place where
women can enjoy networking with each other and keep abreast of current
events in the industry.
LQ is looking forward to
launching its first Executive Series on Women in Supply Chain Management in
the spring of 2008, with senior Canadian and American executives sharing
their insights on leadership and providing views on the barriers mitigated
during their distinguished careers.
In summary, with the
launch of WomenInSCM.com LQ will examine leading ideas and solutions - and
we look forward to contributing to a better chance for more women to achieve
an equitable share of today’s top positions.
