Session Notes on LQ's September 26th Symposium

CASE STUDY & PANEL DISCUSSION:Emerging Trends in Transportation and Logistics: Collaborative Solutions to Supply Chain Challenges Facing Retailers, Manufacturers and Distributors

In the United States consumer product firms and retailers lose an estimated $40 billion annually, (an estimated 3.5% of their sales), largely due to supply chain inefficiencies, according to IBM, which also reports that today "a single calorie of modern supermarket food requires 10 calories of fossil fuel to produce." Clearly, more sustainable and efficient supply chains are essential. Rising fuel costs, new legislation, online commerce and other challenges are all calling for more efficient systems and new technology to trace food and other products through the supply chain to the store shelf. In addition, consumer behavior is driving change in the digital and physical realms of the food and retail business. What are the implications for your supply chain strategy given these trends in business? This panel discussion will feature industry leaders offering their insights on emerging trends and collaborative solutions.

PANEL DISCUSSION: Fostering Innovation in Customer-3PL Relationships in an Expanding Economy; LQ's Sustainability Study and Award Honorable Mentions and Finalists (Focusing on Economic, Social and Environmental factors in sustainability practices)

LQ's Sustainability Study and Awards Finalists and Honorable Mentions:

(Economic factors in sustainability practices) Finalists and Honorable Mentions participating in LQ's Sustainability Study and Awards Program 2013 will present their innovative business cases and share their firm's strategic vision on sustainable supply chain practices, with their clients. These case studies will focus on long-term environmental, social and economic value for all stakeholders.

In addition, these firms will offer insights on how sustainability practices can contribute to brand desirability, deliver operational benefits, raise profitability, contribute to succession planning and other business continuity programs, plus mitigate risks.

After LQ's independent evaluation process is completed at LQ's Symposium, LQ will honor leading 3PLs and their partner client Finalists — who have enhanced their sustainability — by celebrating their achievements in LQ Magazine and through LQ's Sustainability Symposium.

In summary, LQ's annual Sustainability Study and Awards Program (2013) is designed to:

  • Encourage and recognize sustainability excellence;
  • Support innovation in sustainability;
  • Generate case studies highlighting sustainability effectiveness;
  • Enhance industry research regarding 3PL sustainability practices; and
  • Celebrate business supply chain excellence.
